Brethren, We had over 100 visitors on Saturday for the visit to the Royal Arch Building in Manasquan! The turnout was unbelievable and everyone was in awe of the Goodwin Chapter No. 36 Lodge room located on the third floor of the building. Brethren shot video and took many pictures of the beautiful architecture and grandeur of the RAM room. The room is 50 X 70 with a vaulted ceiling approximately 30 feet high. We were able to talk with several local Brethren who had much information about the history of the building. There were several old newspaper articles. One in particular was written in 1923 and spoke about the construction, furnishings, design and builders of the Masonic Temple. It must have been a magnificent building to hold meetings and functions. The second floor had a 400 seat theater and was also the collation room! I want to thank the Companions of Goodwin-Hiram No.1 for all of their help, guidance and assistance with making this visit happen. We also need to thank Gerry and Christine Angersbach for hosting the visit. The owner was thrilled to see over 100 plus visitors to the Lodge Room. He stated that it is sad that the Room is not used by some Masonic group. He bought the building in 1985 and says that no one from the Masons had inquired about the Lodge Room until about two years ago. This is the third visit in two years and he is ecstatic that Masons are taking interest in the historic Lodge Room. We will be posting pictures on the Goodwin-Hiram website. We hope to have a 3-5 minute video put together and post that on youtube. From what we have read this is the ONLY Royal Arch Mason building ever built in the United States and possibly the world. I hope that someday in the near future we can once again hold Masonic functions in this historic and beautiful edifice! Fraternally, Joseph Christian McCann Most Excellent High Priest Goodwin-Hiram Chapter No. 1 RAM
